Pwani University

K-VAC is to be incubated at Pwani University for an initial period of 3 years.

The Pwani University Innovation & Incubation Centre (located in Kilifi, Kenya) is a dedicated hub designed to transform academic research and student ideas into real-world ventures.

Key aspects of the centre and its ecosystem include:

  • Incubation & Support: The centre guides local entrepreneurs through the stages of product development, business modeling, and market access.

  • Research Integration: It works closely with the Pwani University Library's Multimedia Centre and broader research wings to foster collaboration between the academia, local industries, and community stakeholders.

  • Pwani Innovation Week: The centre frequently partners with regional hubs (like Swahilipot Hub) to host campus tours, expos, and pitch competitions where young companies compete for funding.

  • Focus Areas: Aligned with the region's strengths, the hub supports innovations in the Blue Economy, coastal livelihoods, technology for inclusive development, and the bio-economy.

Kilifi County Government

Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) play a key role in Kenya’s education sector by providing skills training and helping to close the skills gap in the labor market. VTCs have a presence at the sub-county level, bringing training to the local communities.

K-VAC has signed a 3 year collaborative agreement with Kilifi’s  Directorate of Vocational Training, Department of Education and ICT. This collaboration allows KVAC to specifically recruitment of female students, single mothers and youth with disabilities at the sub-county village level, so as to reach the most vulnerable and ensure inclusion.

In partnership with Kilifi County Government, K-VAC is also establishing a 6 month paid internship programmeand subsequent work placement network for all services and facilities run by the local county government (local county schools, civic departments, county development projects, etc) where visual media services are utilized or required. This arrangement will provide a pathway to work experience for all our students and potential employment opportunities.

This arrangement also provides the golden opportunity of our intern students to create digital content for all sectors of the county government in which they will be placed.
